Ernest E. Fisher

Born 1880 - Died 1969

Ernest E. Fisher (1880-1969) was a Baptist minister and came to Stafford in 1922.  He was highly involved in the court system, serving as a federal commissioner for the U. S. courts, as an associate judge for Stafford, and was also the county’s juvenile court judge.  According to his obituary, “For a long time he had sat in a courtroom at Cambridge and King streets near the old Falmouth bridge” (Free Lance-Star, June 16, 1969)  This is the tiny brick structure near the junction of Cambridge and Washington Streets now known as the magistrate’s office or the customs house  Ernest was also a member of the Anacostia Freemasons Lodge.  He married Margaret Ellen Snellings (1910-2004) and both are buried in the Falmouth Cemetery behind Union Church.
