Elias King

Born 1795 - Died 1876

Elias King (1795-1876) was the son of Basil King (1760-1844) of Port Tobacco, Maryland.  Basil moved to Prince William County where he was known for his exceptional cabinet making skills.  Elias settled on the south side of Chappawamsic Run and was listed in the 1850 and 1870 Stafford censuses as a wheelwright.  He married Nancy H. Botts (1800-1868) and lived at Stafford Springs on the far northwest side of Stafford.  This tract had mineral springs that, during the nineteenth century, were thought to be healthful and healing.  The King family lived here for several generations and prior to the War Between the States operated a hotel and spa at their home.  This property is now part of the Marine Corps reservation.
