Janetta R. Fitzhugh and Women’s Suffrage
Saturday March 29th 2025 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Central Rappahannock Regional Library, Porter Branch
2001 Parkway Blvd, Stafford, VA 22554, USA
In the early 20th century, women and men throughout the United States fought for the right for women to vote. Janetta R. Fitzhugh, a local community-minded citizen, led the fight for women’s suffrage in this area. Her life and involvement are an inspiration as we continue to work for the well-being of our community. Join Joy O’Toole as she discusses Janetta Fitzhugh’s life, her work in health improvement and women’s suffrage, and the Equal Suffrage League of Virginia.
Joy O’Toole is an Adult Services Programmer at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library, where she creates classes and events to enrich, educate, and connect people in the Fredericksburg area. In her work at the library, she researches and writes about local history, matches people up with their new favorite book, teaches genealogy classes, and supports local writers with monthly writing groups and an annual writers’ conference. Reading, writing, and researching are her passions, and she loves nothing more than to share her knowledge with others. Joy earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia and is working on her first book.
This presentation is given in participation with the Central Rappahannock Regional Library.
