The American Revolution Hunter’s Iron Works Wall Gun

Wall Gun

Hunter, an undoubted patriot and major contributor to the success of the American Revolution, produced all types of weapons and equipment such as camp kettles, spades, shovels, and anchors.  His foundry created muskets, pistols, carbines, and wall guns.  Wall guns were large caliber, smooth bore muskets which were too heavy to be fired from the shoulder.  They were often set on window sills, fences or walls. In the picture above you will notice a large brass swivel hanging from the barrel of the gun. This swivel was used to help anchor the gun and increase its peripheral range which was important for battle. A typical wall gun weighed between 30 and 50 pounds.
